Dr. Ikeda is a biochemist with broad expertise in enzymology, cell signaling, and wound healing.  As a program director at NIGMS, he oversees the NIGMS Exploratory Wound Healing Centers and administers research grants in the basic science of wound healing.  The NIGMS program in wound healing supports basic and clinical investigations in such areas as physiology, biochemistry, and immunology as they relate wound healing. The research is directed toward an improved understanding of the process of wound healing, the basic fundamental aspects of wound healing, and the process of biological repair and regeneration.

Before joining NIGMS in 1999, Ikeda was an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology and supervised an NIH-funded research group.  He has authored approximately 20 scientific papers and review articles.
