Job Task Name Generate plastic dusts or powders (Plexiglas or polyvinyl chloride)
Comments Asthma has been reported in workers who manufacture bottle caps (polyvinyl chloride powder) and in workers who manufacture Plexiglas products (Plexiglas powder). [Malo] Based on case reports and cross-sectional studies, there is some evidence of a polyvinyl chloride pneumoconiosis in workers exposed for years to PVC dust. Findings have included small opacities and impairment of lung function (restricition or reversible airway obstruction). [Rom, p. 533-4] Plexiglas is composed of poly(methyl methacrylate).
