| Abstract: | (CIT): The Disease Control Priorities Project (DCPP) is an ongoing effort to assess disease control priorities and produce evidence-based analysis and resource materials to inform health policymaking in developing countries. Funded primarily through a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, DCPP is a joint program of the Fogarty International Center (FIC) and the National Library of Medicine (NLM), NIH; the World Bank; and the World Health Organization. The purpose of this meeting is to review the key messages of the DCPP and highlight its impact on health policy and programs in developing countries. One year ago, the DCPP released two landmark publications: The second edition of Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries (DCP2); and Global Burden of Disease and Risk Factors. The goal of this 4-year effort was to provide an evidence-based analysis and resource materials to inform health policymaking in developing countries. The Population Reference Bureau coordinated the dissemination of project findings and publications. The first edition of Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries (DCP1) led to major advances in the health care system of many countries, including Mexico. The second edition has already made an impact in several countries, and these experiences will be highlighted during the meeting. The DCPP website http://www.dcp2.org has become an information resource for the world and received more than half a million visitors from over 100 countries since its launch last year. |
