H. R. 7140 —Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2008

On September 26, 2008, Representative Diana DeGette introduced H.R. 7140, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2008. The bill would require the Secretary of HHS to conduct and support research using human embryonic stem cells regardless of the date on which the stem cells were derived from a human embryo, and providing that certain ethical requirements are met. The bill would also require the Director of NIH to develop guidelines governing such research within 90 days of enactment. The bill had one cosponsor upon introduction and was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
