Abstract

Green homes link sustainable materials and practices with better human and environmental health, to everyone's benefit. However, a widespread–and mistaken–perception holds that green design elements are too expensive for most homeowners to afford. Proponents of national standards for green homebuilding are trying to include measures to make green homes even more affordable and more widely available for low-income populations. Government entities are beginning to set far-reaching goals for home energy consumption and emissions reductions, a movement that is expected to further green homebuilding.
