Abstract

Finding melanoma before it spreads--and becomes among the deadliest of human cancers--until now has required a long and laborious visual examination. New dermascopic tools are making the diagnosis of melanomas much more efficient. These tools use features such as image analysis and applied mathematics to let computers detect suspicious spots, which are then examined more closely by a physician.
