Making Succinate More Successful Making Succinate More Successful

Carol Potera

Abstract

Succinate is a chemical with multiple industrial uses that is traditionally produced from petrochemicals. Now several groups of researchers are finding ways to make succinate using renewable starting materials such as corn and sorghum. One team has already started large-scale production of succinate from agricultural materials. The scientists behind this movement expect that the low cost and environmentally friendly image of green succinate will inspire the creation of new materials such as plastics and textiles.
