Keeping an Eye on Exposure: Video Monitoring in the Lab Keeping an Eye on Exposure: Video Monitoring in the Lab

Victoria McGovern

Abstract

Although large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing is generally well controlled from a chemical exposure standpoint, protection may be less rigorous for workers doing basic research and small-batch manufacturing at the bench scale. Researchers have adapted a video monitoring tool for use in the laboratory to help determine the times during any given laboratory procedure that exposure occurs so that steps can be taken to minimize these exposures when possible. Developers of the video monitoring system also see the device playing a role in safety training for pharmaceutical workers.
