Metal Attraction: An Ironclad Solution to Arsenic Contamination? Metal Attraction: An Ironclad Solution to Arsenic Contamination?

Lance Frazer

Abstract

Arsenic in drinking water threatens millions of people around the world. Effective, affordable methods for removing arsenic from water are in short supply. Now ADA Technologies of Littleton, Colorado, has come up with a new way to remove arsenic from water using the iron oxide akageneite coated onto a silicate substrate. Fields tests are showing the amended silicate to be cheaper and more effective than many competing methods at removing arsenic from water. Further tests are needed to confirm how the waste resulting from the process should be handled.
