National Campaign to Raise Awareness of Kidney Disease Issues When: June 1, 2004 Where: Nationwide Institute: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) June will see the launch of a new national campaign to raise awareness about kidney disease issues. Called You Have the Power to Prevent Kidney Disease, the campaign aims to stress how serious kidney disease is, the importance of testing those at high risk, and the fact that people with kidney disease have the ability to prevent or slow their progression toward kidney failure. Sponsoring this campaign is NIDDK's National Kidney Disease Education Program (NKDEP). Working with national media and partner organizations, NKDEP aims to reach African Americans at risk for kidney disease and their primary care providers. NKDEP's campaign is designed to make it easy for organizations to tailor their participation to their current activities, available time, and other resources. Next Steps Organizations interested in participating in the campaign should contact Elisa Gladstone at gladstonee@extra.niddk.nih.gov or (301) 435-8116.
