HIV/AIDS Observance Days This week several important HIV/AIDS and health awareness days are being observed in the United States and around the world:

Focus on Women’s Health: Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
and Cervical Cancer On this second-to-last day of
National Women’s Health Week, AIDSinfo encourages all women,
especially those infected with HIV, to take charge of their cervical
health. Most
cervical cancers are caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV),
a common sexually transmitted infection detectable by Pap smear and laboratory
tests. According to the National Cancer
Institute,
the risk of
cervical cancer is five times higher in women with HIV than in women
without HIV. So schedule a Pap smear and
talk with your doctor about lowering your risk for cervical cancer—early
