H. R. 3295 The Public Health Service Act, Amendment
On August 1, 2007, Representative Jim McCrery (R-LA) introduced H.R. 3295, the Public Health Service Act, Amendment. Provisions would amend the Public Health Service (PHS) Act to modify the program for the sanctuary system for surplus chimpanzees by terminating the authority for the removal of chimpanzees from the system for research purposes. The bill would allow the use of the chimpanzees only for noninvasive behavioral studies. A companion measure, S. 1916, was introduced by Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) on the same day.
