H.R. 1553—The Conquer Childhood Cancer Act of 2007

On March 15, 2007, Representative Deborah Pryce (R-OH) introduced H.R. 1553, the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act of 2007. The legislation would amend Title IV of the Public Health Service Act to establish special programs of research excellence, a pediatric cancer fellowship program, a national childhood cancer registry, and a public awareness campaign. The bill would authorize $30 million for each of the Fiscal Years 2008 through 2012. H.R. 1553 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The companion measure, S. 911, was reported out of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions with an amendment in the nature of a substitute and placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar under General Orders on December 12, 2007.

COMMITTEEE/SUBCOMMITTEE ACTION

April 23, 2008 - The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee reported H.R. 1553 as an amendment in the nature of a substitute.

May 7, 2008 - The House Energy and Commerce Committee reported favorably H.R. 1553 by voice vote.

June 12, 2008 – The House passed the measure by a vote of 416 – 0.

FLOOR ACTION

July 16, 2008 - The Senate passed H.R. 1553, by unanimous consent.

July 29, 2008 - The President signed H.R. 1553 into law as P.L. 110-285.
