Medicare Rx Benefit Changes on the Horizon
January
1, 2006, will mark one of the biggest changes in the history of Medicare
since its inception in 1965. Medicare will launch a new Medicare
prescription drug coverage plan, “Part D,” which will change the way many
Medicare beneficiaries access HIV medications.
“All
Medicare beneficiaries—no matter how they get their health care today or
whether they have existing drug coverage—will be eligible for drug
coverage under a Medicare prescription drug plan,” reports Mark McClellan,
MD, PhD, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services. The plan will cover both brand name and generic
drugs.
