SHARe: SNP Health Association Resource

Program Description

The NHLBI SHARe Project will conduct genome wide association studies and analyses in several large NHLBI Cohort studies to identify genes underlying cardiovascular and lung disease and other disorders like osteoporosis and diabetes. The first SHARe cohort is the Framingham Heart Study, in which genotyping of 550,000 SNPs has been completed in over 9,000 subjects from three generations. The NIH National Center for Biotechnology Information is developing and housing the database for this research project in its Database for Genotype and Phenotype (dbGaP). Data will be available at no cost to all qualified investigators via an application process involving an NHLBI Data Access Committee.

The NHLBI Program Officer for SHARE is Cashell Jaquish, Ph.D.
