NIH Will Hold Public Meeting About Stem Cell Research

An expert working group that is providing advice to the National Institutes of Health on the development of guidelines and oversight options for NIH-funded research involving human pluripotent stem cells* will hold a public meeting on Thursday, April 8.

The working group, which will report to the Advisory Committee to the [NIH] Director, will discuss the scientific, ethical, legal, and social issues relevant to research using these cells, and will consider the oversight process. Seating is limited. Also, a limited time will be allocated for public oral testimony.

The all-day meeting is scheduled to begin about 9 a.m. on April 8 at the Bethesda Marriott, 5151 Pooks Hill Road in Bethesda.

*Human pluripotent stem cells have the potential to form most of the cells and tissues of the human body.
