S. 2790—Comprehensive Cancer Care Improvement Act of 2008

On March 31, 2008, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) introduced S. 2790, the Comprehensive Cancer Care Improvement Act of 2008. The bill would amend the Medicare program to provide for coverage of comprehensive cancer care planning services to provide individuals diagnosed with cancer a plan that details all aspects of the care to be provided. Relevant to NIH, Section 401 would require the Director of NIH to establish a grant program for research on palliative care, symptom management, communication skills, and other end-of-life topics for such patients. S. 2790 is similar to H.R. 1078, introduced by Representative Lois Capps (D-CA) on February 15, 2007. S. 2790 was referred to the Senate Committee on Finance.
