Introductory Information
The NINR offers research and research training awards. The primary mechanism used by the NINR is the investigator-initiated grant. The grant mechanism is used to support research and training projects for which the applicant is responsible for developing the protocol, concept, method, and approach for the project. Investigator-initiated applications such as the research project applications, specialized research and core centers, fellowship and training programs, and developmental awards are supported as grants.
Each application receives dual review for scientific merit and program relevance by panels of experts. Awards are made on a competitive basis to institutions on behalf of a principal investigator, except for predoctoral, postdoctoral, and senior fellowships, which are made to individuals. The following awards are available from the NINR. Please contact the extramural program staff listed in the areas of science section for additional information.
