Academic Research Enhancement Awards (R15) fund a research project for a PI at a non-research intensive college or university to allow undergraduates to be involved in NIH- supported research.

Program Announcement (PA)

A PA communicates the interest of an NIH institute or center in receiving applications in the stated scientific areas. Generally, money is not reserved for grants in these areas outside the payline.

PI

R18

grants to allow translation of the results from large-scale, multi-center clinical trials to the community, both physicians and patients

R25

Curriculum-driven grants to create educational opportunities that will attract undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to careers in areas of biomedical or behavioral research of particular interest to the NIDDK.

R34

Clinical trial planning grants award limited funds for the initial development of a clinical trial, including collection of feasibility data, assembling the research team, developing a protocol, operations manual, etc.

RFA

An RFA is the official statement that invites grant or cooperative agreement applications to accomplish a specific program purpose. RFAs indicate the amount of funds set aside for the competition and generally identify a single application receipt date.

SRA

Scientific Review Administrator - The name of the SRA for the study section to which your grant is assigned can be found in the eCommons in the information regarding your grant.

U01

Cooperative agreement. Equivalent to R01, but with NIH staff involvement.

Underrepresented

Nationally, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, and Alaskan natives are regarded as underrepresented in science
