GENERAL

Q: Where should I mail my application to?

A: Your application (signed original) along with its supporting documentation should be mailed to the following address:

Q: Are the deadlines dates, received by or postmarked by?

A: They are received by deadlines.

Q: What is the turnaround timeframe between nomination and award?

A: The turnaround is approximately 3 months from the time the nominations are submitted to the JSPS office by NIH and when the applicant receives their award letter, if awarded.

Q: When is Japan's Fiscal Year?

A: Start of April each year (April 1 - March 31).

Q: Can I apply if I only have a M.D. degree and no Ph.D.?

A: No, you must have at least a Ph.D. to apply to the Fellowship.

Q: Can a successful applicant postpone the Fellowship for a year?

A: No, the successful applicant must start the fellowship of the fiscal year period s/he applied for.

Q: How is an applicant informed if s/he receives the JSPS fellowship or not?

A: All applicants will receive a hard copy of a letter from JSPS Tokyo informing them in early October if they are successful or not. The successful applicant will then receive an email from JSPS Tokyo on further instructions.

Q: Will the applicants receive their application review comments and score?

A: Yes, once JSPS notifies all the applicants in early October, NIH will send out the review comments/scores via email to all the applicants.

Q: What needs to be original and what can be a copy?

A: The application must be an original with an original signature. The certificate of PhD degree must also be an original (with original seal and signature). All other supporting documents can be submitted as a copy.
