Regulation of Human Energy Metabolism and Body Composition

Closing Date: None

Position Type:

Postdoctoral Fellow

Details:
A fellowship position is available at the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases, one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) located in Bethesda, Maryland. The successful candidate will conduct experiments at the new state-of-the-art NIH Obesity Clinical Research Center to study whole-body macronutrient metabolism and the regulation of body weight and composition. Specific projects include, but are not limited to: 1. Adaptations of energy expenditure during over- and under-feeding 2. Macronutrient balances responsible for body composition changes during weight gain and loss 3. Metabolic effects of varying dietary macronutrient composition 4. Effects of dietary protein and exercise on body composition and energy metabolism These projects will be conducted as part of a unique interdisciplinary research team that includes a computational modeling approach to design, predict, and analyze experiments on whole-body human metabolism and quantitatively integrate these data to better understand the system as a whole. Applicants should possess an M.D. or Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Physiology, Nutrition, or a related field. The successful candidate will have a strong quantitative understanding of whole-body macronutrient metabolism and experience conducting whole-body metabolic experiments including indirect calorimetry, body composition assessment, biomedical imaging, and isotopic tracer methods for measuring whole-body fluxes. Salary will be commensurate with experience according to NIH guidelines. Please send your CV and a list of 3 references.
