Eva Mezey, M.D., Ph.D., Investigator |
|
Dr. Eva M. Mezey received her M.D. in 1975 from the Semmelweis University Medical School, and her Ph.D. in 1982 from the National Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Hungary. She completed post-doctoral training in the Department of Anatomy in Budapest under the guidance of Drs. John Szentagothai and Miklos Palkovits, and in the Department of Pharmacology in Utrecht (The Netherlands) under the supervision of Dr. David De Wied. In 1982, Dr. Mezey joined the NIMH to study neuroendocrine regulatory mechanisms and in 2004 moved to the NIDCR to become the Head of the Adult Stem Cell Research Section. Her laboratory is currently studying the process by which bone marrow cells differentiate into neurons and glia within the CNS.

Research Interests:
Differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal and hematopoetic stem cells into neuronal elements.
Identification of factors that draw stem cells into the brain and direct their differentiation there.
Characterization of receptors on stem cells that might induce migration, proliferation, and/or differentiation.
