Science-related Internship/Fellowship Opportunities at the NIH

Technology Transfer Research Training Award (TTRTA)
For postdoctoral fellows who currently hold an IRTA or CRTA position at the NIH and who want to make the transition to a career in technology transfer. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must commit two years to the program.

  Technology Transfer Internship
For individuals who have completed a bachelor's degree and are currently enrolled in a law, business, or life science graduate program. Applicants must be willing to commit 15 to 25 hours a week to this unpaid internship. U.S. citizens or those with valid visas are welcome to apply.

Center for Scientific Review (CSR) Internship Program
For research scientists interested in science administration. CSR manages the peer review groups (study sections) that evaluate the vast majority of investigator-initiated grant applications submitted to the NIH. Applicants must have a doctoral degree plus 4 years of postdoctoral experience; U.S. citizenship is not required.

  NCI/FDA Joint Fellowship Training Programs
For MDs, MD/PhDs, and PhDs. Fellows will be trained in preclinical oncology research, cancer prevention, clinical trials methodology, and medical product and other regulatory research and review. By combining training in cancer-related scientific research and research-related regulatory review, this program will help fellows learn to bridge the development and review processes. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, but other eligibility criteria vary across the four programs.

The National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program
A partnership between the Division of Occupational Health and Safety and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Two-year fellowships are offered at the postbaccalaureate and postdoctoral levels to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or U.S. nationals.

Opportunities for Short Administrative Assignments at the NIH
The Center for Scientific Review (CSR), the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), and several components of the Office of the Director offer postdoctoral trainees the opportunity to spend three months on an administrative or science policy detail.
