H.R. 1424—The Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Act

On March 9, 2007, Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) introduced H.R. 1424, the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Act. H.R. 1424 would require insurers to cover mental health conditions in the same manner as physical health conditions. H.R. 1424 was referred to the House Committees on Energy and Commerce, Education and Labor and Ways and Means.

October 1, 2008 – The Senate passed H.R. 1424, by a vote of 74-25

PRESIDENTIAL ACTION

October 3, 2008 – The President signed H.R. 1424 into law as P.L. 110-343.
