Stem Cell Research Career Pathways Working Group
Stem cell biology represents a convergence of ideas and technologies that has evolved from an array of scientific disciplines. There is no traditional career path for developing an extensive focus on fundamental biological problems. Consequently, there is a paucity of skilled researchers, and lack of dedicated training environments for career enrichment. At a more specific level, programs to enhance skills and techniques in working with various stem cell types (adult, embryonic, fetal) are needed across the research enterprise.
The goals of the Working Group are to:
Define needs, evaluate existing models, resources, and mechanisms to ensure vibrant stem cell resource work force.
Make recommendations to the NIH Stem Cell Task Force on career pathway training programs and time/effort support.
