H.R.810—The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005

On February 15, 2005, Representative Mike Castle (R-DE) introduced H.R. 810, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005. The bill would require NIH to fund research utilizing human embryonic stem cells regardless of the date such cells were derived. NIH would be required to publish implementing guidelines within 60 days of enactment. H.R. 810 had 150 cosponsors upon introduction, and was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

FLOOR ACTION

May 24, 2005 - The House passed H.R. 810 by a vote of 238-194.

July 17, 2005 - The Senate passed H.R. 810 by a vote of 63-37.

PRESIDENTIAL ACTION

July 19, 2005 -  The President vetoed H.R. 810.
