  Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA)
For U.S. citizens and permanent residents with less than five years of relevant research experience since receipt of the doctorate degree.
 
  Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA)
For U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are training at the postdoctoral level in the National Cancer Institute.
 
  Postdoctoral Visiting Fellowship (VF)
For foreign national doctoral-level scientists within five years of obtaining their doctoral degree.
 
  National Research Council Research Associateship Program
For outstanding investigators of any nationality who have held their doctoral degree for less than five years.
 
  National Research Council Research Associateship Program - Joint National Institutes of Health (National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering)/National Institute of Standards and Technology [NIH (NIBIB)/NIST] Program
For outstanding investigators of any nationality who have held their doctoral degree for less than five years and who wish to pursue a two-year co-mentored fellowship in both an NIH and a NIST laboratory.
 
  International Research Career Transition Programs
Opportunities for recent doctoral degree recipients from participating countries to pursue postdoctoral training at the NIH and then return to positions as independent investigators in their home countries.
 
  Fellowships in Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics
The Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) of the National Cancer Institute conducts a national and international program of population- and family-based studies to elucidate the environmental and genetic determinants of cancer. Fellowship training is up to five years under the supervision of DCEG scientists. Fellows design, carry out, analyze, and publish research studies related to the etiology of cancer in human populations, and gain experience with interdisciplinary, interagency, and multicenter collaborations. Fellowship applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
 
  NCI Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program
For U.S. citizens or permanent residents or applicants from the Ireland-Northern Ireland-NCI Cancer Consortium who have less than five years of relevant research experience since receipt of the doctorate degree. The purpose of this program is to train individuals from a multiplicity of health sciences disciplines (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, or the biomedical, nutritional, public health, social, and behavioral sciences) in the field of cancer prevention and control. Applications are accepted May 1 through September 1. The program offers training toward an M.P.H. degree at an accredited university during the first year, followed by mentored research with investigators at the NCI.
 
  National Institute of General Medical Sciences Pharmacology Research Associate (PRAT) Program
For U.S. citizens and permanent residents within five years of obtaining their doctoral degree.
 
  Women's Health Postdoctoral Fellowship
Research projects specifically focused on women's health issues. [Currently not open for applications]
