Genomic and Proteomic Network on Premature Birth Research

A preemie in the hospitalThe NICHD established the Genomic and Proteomic Network on Premature Birth Research in 2005, with the main objective of using global, high-throughput, genomic and proteomic strategies to accelerate knowledge in the mechanisms responsible for preterm birth. The network is supported by the NICHD Pregnancy and Perinatology Branch.

The network will act as a resource for the scientific community by providing genomic and proteomic data generated by its research for secondary analyses, as well as providing a public, Web-based, repository for genomic and proteomic data relevant to the field of premature birth research.

The network projects consist of three collaborative core components: the clinical core, comprising three clinical sites, which is responsible for subject recruitment and specimen collection; the analytical core, which is responsible for genomic and proteomic analyses; and the data management, statistics, and informatics core, which is responsible for central data collection, analysis, and management; information technology; and coordination of the administrative activities of the network.
