Aging Under The Microscope: A Biological Quest , a free booklet that explains in easy-to-understand language what scientists are learning about aging, is now available from the National Institute on Aging (NIA). The new publication includes the latest findings from top biology of aging researchers.

In addition to describing the progress scientists have made in unlocking the secrets of aging, the 50-page booklet details how these insights may help move us closer to the ultimate goal of promoting health and independence throughout the lifespan. It is intended to be a resource for journalists, educators, students, policymakers, and the general public.

Among the questions the booklet addresses are: What is aging? What is senescence? What is the difference between life expectancy and lifespan? Why do we age? What role do genes play in aging? How do hormones affect aging and what influence, if any, does hormone replacement therapy have on this process? Can cutting caloric intake increase lifespan and improve health?

The public may obtain copies of Aging Under The Microscope: A Biological Quest , as well as other information about aging, by contacting:
