Fellowship Opportunities in Federal Technology
Transfer
The NIH Office of Technology Transfer has postdoctoral fellowship opportunities available under the Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) authority to qualified candidates in the field of technology transfer. These fellowships enable candidates to combine their science background with training and experience in the technology transfer field. Fellows work with OTT marketing, patenting, and licensing staff, as well as researchers and technology and business development people within and outside NIH. Fellows are required to spend 20% of their training time in an assigned NIH laboratory and 80% at OTT.
Duties & Responsibilities
Fellows will receive hands-on specialized training.
Fellows will be mentored in and assigned tasks related to:
- Intellectual Property Basics
- Valuation of Technology
- Marketing of Technology
- Introduction to Licensing and
Negotiation Practices
- Monitoring of Technology Development
- Customer Service and Interpersonal
Relations
Who May Apply
- Candidates must have received a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., D.O., Pharm.D., or equivalent degree in biomedical or related science.
- Candidates must have no more than five years of relevant postdoctoral research experience.
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Special notes:
- Fellows are not employees of the
Federal Government. As such, Technology
Transfer IRTA trainees may not
represent the Government in negotiations or signing documents on
behalf of the Government.
- These fellowships require a two-year
commitment on the part of candidates.
Compensation & Benefits
Stipends
- Stipends are determined by the level of
education and the number of years of experience post-graduation,
and are based on approved Postdoctoral IRTA stipend ranges.
- Stipends are paid monthly in arrears.
- Annual stipend increases may be given
on a Fellow´s anniversary date.
Health Insurance
An approved plan of health insurance is available through the
Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES).
