NIH Xenopus Gene Collection

OVERVIEW

The goal of the NIH Xenopus Gene Collection (XGC) is to identify and sequence a representative full-length open reading frame (ORF) clone for a finite number of Xenopus laevis and Xenopus tropicalis genes. By the end of 2003, over 1900 full-length ORFs for X. laevis and over 500 full-length ORFs for X. tropicalis non-redundant genes had been deposited into GenBank. All clones generated by the XGC are publicly accessible to the biomedical research community through the IMAGE Consortium distributors.

The XGC is part of the NIH Xenopus Initiative, which is working to establish many of the genetic and genomic resources recommended by the Xenopus research community, including cDNA libraries, expressed sequence tags (ESTs) and full-length cDNA sequences.
