Meet Evengia Ostroumova

Evengia OstroumovaIn September 2006 Dr. Evgenia Ostroumova joined the Radiation Epidemiology Branch as a Visiting Fellow. Dr. Ostroumova received her M.D. from the Chelyabinsk medical institute, Chelyabinsk, Russia. After receiving her M.D. she had been working in the epidemiology lab of the Urals Research Center for Radiation Medicine, Chelyabinsk, Russia. Her primary research interest was the health effects of ionizing radiation on the rural communities near the Techa river. This region is contaminated by the Mayak Production Association, which was first Russian plant to produce nuclear weapon plutonium. In 2004 she received Ph.D. in internal medicine from Tyumen medical academy, Tyumen, Russia. Zhenia’s dissertation was devoted to health effects of protracted low-dose rate environmental exposure among Techa River residents exposed in utero. At REB, Zhenia works on Chornobyl project with Drs. Maureen Hatch, Elaine Ron and Alina Brenner; continues the Techa River cohort study with Drs. Elaine Ron and Dale Preston as well as contributes to the study of chronic lymphoid leukemia (CLL) incidence international trends with Drs. Susan Devesa, Martha Linet, William Anderson and Graca Dores.
