Attend an AIDS Research Advisory Committee Meeting When: September 26, 2005, 1:00pm Where: NIH Campus, Bethesda, MD Institute: National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) The total number of diagnosed AIDS cases in the United States through 2003 is estimated as 929,985. This includes 920,566 adult and adolescent cases, 749,887 in males and 170,679 in females. During the same period, almost 9,500 AIDS cases occurred in children under the age of 13.
The AIDS Research Advisory Committee (ARAC) meets each year in January, May, and September. The meetings are open to the public and no pre-registration is required. The agenda for the September meeting includes the presentation and review of a number of possible new initiatives within the NIAID Division of AIDS, including the Vaccine Research Program, the Treatment Research Initiative, and the Basic Sciences Program. Time will be given for the public to comment on the topics under discussion at the meeting. Next Steps Visitors to the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, should bring a photo ID and allow additional time for security procedures. All vehicles will be inspected and visitor badges issued at the NIH Gateway vehicle inspection station. Visitor badges will be issued to pedestrians at either the NIH Gateway Center, at Metro (24/7), or the NIH West Visitor Center, Old Georgetown Road and South Drive (5 a.m. to 9 p.m. only).
