David Balshaw, Ph.D.

Dr. Balshaw joined the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in 2001 when he was hired to manage the NHLBI portfolio in mechanisms of cardioprotection. In 2003 he moved to his current position at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, where he oversees the Institute’s portfolio in emerging technologies, including development of ‘Omics technologies, computational biology, and the application of nanotechnology. He is also responsible for overseeing the development of activities in interdisciplinary research and the translation of findings across multiple levels, from engineering through mechanistic research and into clinical application. Prior to his arrival at NIH, his research focused on modeling ion transport processes and their regulation.
