Emerging Scientists Can Apply Now for Summer Institute on Aging Research

When: January 21–March 2, 2007
Institute: Fogarty International Center (FIC)

The annual Summer Institute on Aging Research provides researchers in the early stages of their careers with information on opportunities and collaborations in aging research and training in how to seek research funding in a competitive environment. This year, 40 participants will be selected to attend the Institute, which will be held at Aspen Wye River Conference Facility in Queenstown, Maryland, from July 14 to 20.

The Summer Institute offers sessions taught by NIH staff and distinguished guest scientists from a variety of disciplines. Lectures in 2007 will include topics relevant to the aging of ethnic and racial minorities and will feature the biology of aging; genetics and Alzheimer’s disease; and health, behavior, and aging. Methodological approaches and interventions and the development of research grant applications will also be discussed.

This year, NIA and FIC are co-sponsoring two international researchers at the Summer Institute. Applicants for these slots must reside in a low- or middle-income country and have a current visa that covers the time of study.

Next Steps
Applications will be accepted from emerging researchers, including those with limited experience in aging research. Applications and letters of recommendation must be received by March 2.
