Conference Announcements
Childhood Obesity: Partnerships
for Research and Prevention
is the fifth conference in the biennial series on nutrition and health
promotion sponsored by the International Life Sciences Institute, Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, American Cancer Society, Emory University,
and National Institutes of Health. Scheduled for May 3-5, 1999, in Atlanta,
the conference will bring together researchers, administrators, and practitioners
to examine research and interventions for the prevention of childhood
obesity. The conference will combine plenary presentations and working
group discussions centered around three significant settings: health care,
schools, and the community. A poster session will be held May 3 to highlight
current research.
Conference goals include setting an agenda for research; increasing
awareness of the childhood obesity problem; and developing intervention
and partnering strategies to apply research outcomes. This conference
will provide a unique opportunity for pediatric obesity researchers, Federal,
State, and community officials, policymakers responsible for nutrition
and physical activity programs, managed care administrators, educators,
community leaders, and program directors to share perspectives on this
important topic.
