S. 2777—The Safety for Americans from Nuclear Weapons Testing Act

On September 7, 2004, Senator Robert Bennett (R-UT) introduced S. 2777, the Safety for Americans from Nuclear Weapons Testing Act. Included among the provisions is a requirement that NIH award a grant for a National Center for the Study of Radiation and Human Health to be "located in the inter-mountain west region of the Unites States." The bill also would require NCI to complete a study of individuals exposed to nuclear weapons testing within three years of enactment. The companion measure is H.R. 3921, introduced by Representative Jim Matheson (D-UT) on March 9, 2004. S. 2777 was referred to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
