H.R. 4595—Ronald Reagan Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Act of 2004

On June 16, 2004, Representative Edward Markey (D-MA) introduced H.R. 4595, the Ronald Reagan Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Act of 2004. The bill, which is a companion to S. 2533 introduced the same day by Senators Christopher “Kit” Bond (R-MO) and Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), would double the funding for Alzheimer’s disease research at the NIH, and double the funding for the National Caregiver Support Program and the Alzheimer’s Demonstration Grant Program. The measure also calls on the CDC to create an education program, “News You Can Use,” to spread the word about advances in research. H.R. 4595, which has 22 cosponsors, was referred to the House Committees on Energy and Commerce, Education and the Workforce, and Ways and Means.
