Research Supplements

Supplements can be provided to existing grants (e.g. R01, P01) to promote diversity in health-related research or reentry into biomedical and behavioral research careers. These programs are described below:

• Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (PA-08-190)
  This program supersedes and replaces the Research Supplements for Underrepresented Minorities (PA-05-015). These supplements are intended to promote diversity in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social sciences research workforce. The program encourages institutions to recruit individuals shown to be underrepresented in science including individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
• NIDDK-Specific Application Guidelines for Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research These are application guidelines that are specific to the NIDDK and supersede the NIH general guidelines in these specific areas only. The guidelines are located in SectionVII.1 Agency Contacts: Scientific/Research Contacts of the Program Announcement (PA-08-190)
• Research Supplements to Promote Reentry Into Biomedical and Behavioral Research Careers (PA-08-191)
  This program supersedes and replaces the Supplements to Promote Reentry into Biomedical and Behavioral Research(PA-04-126). This program provides an opportunity for postdoctoral candidates and fully trained investigators with established careers to re-enter active research after taking time off to care for children or to attend to other family responsibilities.
• NIDDK-Specific Application Guidelines for Research Supplements to Promote Reentry into Biomedical and Behavioral Research Careers. These are application guidelines that are specific to the NIDDK and supersede the NIH general guidelines in these specific areas only. The guidelines are located in SectionVII.1 Agency Contacts: Scientific/Research Contacts of the Program Announcement (PA-08-191).
