- HIV Prevention and Trauma Treatment in Men Who Have Sex With Men and Who Have a History of Sexual Abuse.
Interventional study. This study will develop a therapy for men who have sex with men who also have a history of childhood sexual abuse to reduce behaviors that put them at a high risk of HIV infection. Ages 18 and over. Location in Boston, MA.
- Effectiveness of Armodafinil for Treating Fatigue in Adults With HIV/AIDS.
Interventional study. This study will determine whether armodafinil (Nuvigil), an FDA approved medication, is effective in reducing fatigue in adults with HIV/AIDS. Ages 18-70. Location in New York, NY.
- Effectiveness of Community-Level Behavioral and Biomedical Interventions for Reducing HIV/STIs in Men in Peru.
Interventional study. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of community-level behavioral and biomedical interventions, each alone and combined, in reducing sexual risk behavior and HIV/sexually transmitted infections in Peruvian men who have sex with men. Ages 18-45. Location in Lima, Peru.
- Adult Sexual Risk Behavior Among Women With a History of Childhood Sexual Abuse.
Evaluation study. This study will evaluate whether childhood experiences are related to current sexual behavior of adult women. Ages 18 and over. Location in Rochester, NY.
- Providing Voluntary HIV Counseling and Testing Plus Linkage to Care in Uganda.
Interventional study. This study will compare the effectiveness of brief versus detailed HIV counseling sessions, paired with referrals to either HIV-specific medical care or usual care, in reducing HIV risk behavior and in increasing treatment adherence in Uganda. - Effectiveness of HIV/Sexually Transmitted Infection Training for Physicians in China.
Interventional study. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of a physician training program, the Ai Shi Zi program, in improving HIV/sexually transmitted infection diagnosis, treatment, and management by Chinese physicians and in reducing the number of subsequent infections in their patients. - Effectiveness of Integrating Prenatal Care in Reducing HIV/STDs Among Young Pregnant Women.
Interventional study. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of CenteringPregnancy Plus, a group prenatal care treatment program with an HIV/sexually transmitted disease prevention component, in reducing health risk behaviors in pregnant teenagers seeking services at Community Health Centers in the New York metropolitan area. - An Educational and Supportive Counseling Program for Increasing Antiretroviral Use and Adherence in People With HIV.
Interventional study. This study will develop and test the effectiveness of an educational and supportive counseling program called Preparing Patients to Start Antiretroviral Therapy in helping people with HIV make informed decisions about their health care. Ages 18 and over. Location in San Francisco, CA.
- Antidepressant Medication and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to Help HIV Infected Adults With Depression to Adhere to Antiretroviral Therapy.
Interventional study. This study will compare the effectiveness of antidepressant therapy alone versus antidepressant therapy combined with cognitive behavioral therapy in helping HIV infected adults with depression to take their medications on schedule. Ages 18-60. Location in Torrance, CA.
- Two Approaches to Routine HIV Testing in a Hospital Emergency Department.
Interventional study. This study will compare the effectiveness of two different approaches to providing routine HIV counseling, testing, and referral services in an urban hospital emergency department setting. Ages 18 and over. Location in Boston, MA.
- Effects of HIV and Hepatitis C Virus on the Brain.
Evaluation study. This study will determine the effects that HIV and hepatitis C virus have on thinking abilities and whether the viruses affect brain chemistry. Ages 18-65. Location in New York, NY.

This study will evaluate the effectiveness of Structured Ecosystems Therapy (SET), a form of therapy that includes family and caregivers, at reducing HIV transmission risk behaviors and improving treatment adherence in HIV infected men newly released from prison. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of directly observed therapy plus antidepressant medication in improving adherence to antiretroviral drug therapy among HIV-infected homeless and marginally housed people with depression. Interventional study. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of the Share Safer Sex Program in reducing sexual risk behaviors among female sex workers in four Mexican cities close to the U.S. Ages 18 and over. Location in Tijuana, Mexico.
- Modified Directly Observed Therapy for Improving Antiretroviral Therapy Adherence in People With HIV.
Interventional study. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of a modified directly observed therapy program in increasing antiretroviral therapy adherence in poor, HIV-infected residents of urban communities. Ages 18 and over. Location in San Francisco, CA.
- Specialized Cognitive-Behavioral Counseling Intervention to Reduce HIV Transmission Risk Behavior in HIV-Infected Men.
Interventional study. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of a specialized cognitive-behavioral counseling intervention in reducing sexual risk behaviors in men who are HIV-infected and report having unprotected sex with male partners who are either not HIV-infected or do not know if they are HIV-infected.
