Introduction to SciMentorNet
SciMentorNet is an online mentoring program for U.S. high school and college students who are interested in behavioral and social science, biomedical science, dental, and healthcare careers. Through this program, students are linked via e-mail with e-mentors who provide them with relevant information, guidance and support. E-mentoring takes place on a secured Internet Web site managed by the NIH. The program aims to offer students a safe place to receive professional and ongoing support as they strive for academic and career success.
Mentors

Is it Safe to Use This Web site?
To ensure student safety, all prospective mentors are screened against the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender database of the United States Department of Justice. NIH also reviews mentors’ personal references and their academic and employment histories.
As another safety measure, e-mails between mentor and student will pass through a private and secure Web site managed by the NIH. All communications between mentor and student must be limited to the registered e-mail address at this Web site.
What do I need to get started?
- Students must be at least 16 years old and if you are under 18 years old, obtain a parent's or legal guardian's consent to participate.
- Students need an e-mail account, which can be obtained free from most Internet service providers (such as www.yahoo.com or www.aol.com)
- Students need access to a computer with Internet connection, at least on an occasional basis through your school, local library, work or home
