Description

A 2-day national conference being held at the NIH campus (Natcher Auditorium) focusing on the latest research findings about the behavioral, cognitive, and neurobiological sources of nicotine addiction, prevention of tobacco product use, and state-of-the-art treatment strategies.

Objectives

This conference will enhance awareness and increase knowledge of nicotine addiction and its role in initiating and maintaining tobacco use including:

• Role of genetic, biological, behavioral, and sociocultural risk and protective factors

• Role of economic factors, advertising and ease of access in initiating tobacco use

• Breakthroughs in the neurobiology of nicotine addiction

• Current issues in the treatment of nicotine addiction

• Role of behavioral and pharmacological treatment approaches

Continuing Education

The National Institutes of Health/Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The National Institutes of Health/Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences designates this educational activity for a maximum of 11 hours in Category l credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

NIDA is authorized by regulations under Title 10, Subtitle 36, Chapter .05B of the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists to award 11 hours of Category A credit to psychologists for this activity.

Certificates of attendance will be provided for all participants at the conclusion of the conference.
