Winter 1998 Former Task Force Member Named CDC Division Director

Former National Task Force on Prevention and Treatment of Obesity member William Dietz, M.D., Ph.D., has been named director of the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity, effective November 3, 1997, which is within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Dietz will lead the program which works to prevent risk factors, such as obesity, that contribute to chronic diseases.

Before joining CDC, he was director of clinical nutrition, Department of Pediatrics, Tufts-New England Medical Center. Dr. Dietz also initiated and directed the WIN pilot program, Sisters Together, since its 1994 inception.
