NEMS Awareness Training
The NEMS awareness training which all NIH employees must take, is designed to briefly inform employees of their roles and responsibilities within the NEMS. This training reviews the NIH Environmental Policy, describes how the NEMS works, and discusses ways to reduce your impact on the environment.

A web-based version of the NEMS awareness training is available through the HHS Learning Portal. This course will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You may download instructions on how to access the NEMS Awareness Training through the HHS Learning Portal below:

Briefings

The EMS Overview Briefing for the NIH provides general information on an environmental management system for those involved with implementing the system. This overview discusses in detail the steps involved in planning and implementing an EMS. You may download a copy of the EMS overview briefing below:

Related Trainings

The term competency training includes all of the various job-specific trainings that are given to employees to ensure that they are able to do their job in a way that is protective of the environment. These only include training of employees whose job has a potential to impact the environment in a significant way, such as training for lab workers. These trainings may not focus primarily on the environment, but include how a job should be performed to be protective of the environment.
