H.R. 597—Patient Protection Act

On February 5, 2003, Representative Charlie Norwood (R-GA) introduced H.R. 597, the Patient Protection Act. Provisions of this bill would require health care insurers to allow their enrollees to participate in clinical trials, pay for routine patient costs for items and services furnished in connection with participation in the trial, and grant their enrollees access to information about the plans. H.R. 597 was jointly referred to the House Committees on Energy and Commerce, on Education and the Workforce, and on Ways and Means.
