P.L. 108-25 - United States Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Act of 2003

On May 27, 2003, the President signed into law H.R. 1298 as P.L. 108-25, the United States Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Act of 2003. Provisions of this new legislation would 1) require the President to establish a comprehensive, integrated 5-year strategy to combat global HIV/AIDS, including specific objectives, approaches and strategies; 2) assign priorities for relevant executive branch agencies; 3) improve coordination among such agencies; and 4) project general levels of resources needed to achieve the stated goals. This legislation also would require the President to establish a position of HIV/AIDS Response Coordinator at the U.S. Department of State, who would have primary responsibility for oversight and coordination of all U.S. international activities to combat the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
