H.R. 342—Mosquito Abatement for Safety and Health Act

On March 12, 2003, the House passed, by a vote of 416 to 9, H.R. 342, the Mosquito Abatement for Safety and Health Act; and on March 13, 2003, the bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. H.R. 342 would authorize grants through the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention for mosquito control programs to prevent mosquito-borne diseases. In addition, H.R. 342 requires NIEHS to conduct or support research into methods to control the population of insects and vermin that transmit dangerous diseases to humans. H.R. 342 was introduced by Representative Christopher John (D-LA) on January 27, 2003, and was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. This bill is similar to S. 1015 which was introduced by Senator Judd Gregg on May 7 and was signed into law as P.L. 108-75 on August 15.
