Employment opportunites at the Laboratory of Molecular Cardiology (LMC)

Muscle Molecular Biology Section, Robert Adelstein, Principal Investigator

I am looking for a postdoctoral fellow to continue the characterization of the knockout and hypomorphic mice we have generated.  These mice are either entirely lacking or have decreased amounts of nonmuscle myosin II-A and II-B.  We also are generating conditional knockouts and "knockins" with single amino acid mutations.  We are particularly interested in understanding the cause of these defects and in looking for human counterparts.

The position is open to individuals with a Ph.D./M.D. degree or equivalent and less than 3 years prior postdoctoral experience starting October 2002.  If you are interested, please send your C.V. and have sent, separately, 3 letters of recommendation to:

Cellular and Molecular Motility Section, James Sellers, Principal Investigator

I have an opening for a postdoctoral fellow in my laboratory at the National Institutes of Health to study the structure and function of unconventional myosins.  Our laboratory utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to this problem.  Several members use baculoviral expression of conventional and unconventional myosins to create fragments and mutants of various myosins.  The kinetics of interaction with actin and ATP are studied as well as in vitro mechanical responses.  We are also interested in the regulation of myosins and the proteins responsible for targeting myosin within cells.  Other members of the laboratory are utilizing Drosophila as a model system for studying myosin's functions.

The National Institutes of Health is a dynamic, intellectually stimulating workplace located in Bethesda, MD.  The advertised position is fully funded and pays a competitive salary commensurate with experience.  I am seeking individuals with a Ph.D. or M.D. degree with less than four years previous postdoctoral experience.  Previous training might include biochemistry, biophysics, genetics or molecular biology.  The position is available immediately, although I would be willing to hold the position, if necessary.  Please send a C.V. and the names and contact information for three references.  NIH is an equal opportunity employer.
