The use of leased facilities in the commercial real estate market is part of a strategy to give NIH the flexibility to meet rapidly changing priorities. Currently, NIH has approximately 90 Federal leases totaling about 3.5 million rentable square feet in the Washington Metropolitan area; Baltimore, MD; Phoenix, Arizona; and the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina.

The leased space inventory is managed by a team of Real Estate Specialists within the Real Estate Contracting Branch (RECB) of the Office of Acquisitions, ORF.
