Sentinel Network

The Sentinel Network is an integrated, electronic, national medical product safety initiative. Using currently available and emerging information technologies and building on existing and new bioinformatics infrastructures, such as the Nationwide Health Information Network initiative, the Sentinel Network can make information about the safe and effective use of medical products accessible to patients and healthcare practitioners in a timely and efficient fashion. Such a network would integrate existing and planned efforts to collect, analyze, and disseminate medical product safety information to health care practitioners and patients at the point-of-care. It would be established through multiple, broad-based, public-private partnerships.
